The Community Action Planning Group (CAPG) is a voluntary body that is in the process of building a core of activists concerned about a range of development issues or more aptly a lack of development in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood.
The continued loss of bank branches, community social services, the hospital, bookstores, shops and restaurants are some of the issues that are the cause of the deterioration of the lifestyle of the local residents.
A community planning board could, through extensive outreach and democratic processes, legitimately speak, with some influence, for the community at development tables where decisions are made. Giving vocie to the aspirations and concerns of the community.
Despite community interest – a lack of funding and human resources paired with a tenuous connection with elected officials makes the logistics of implementing a community planning board in this neighbourhood a challenge.
